South Asian Therapy

Many values in South Asian culture are different from Western society, and that can make it hard to connect with a therapist who truly understands.

Get support from someone who relates to your cultural experience.

What can you expect from our therapists?

  • Compassionate Care

Choosing to start therapy can make you feel very vulnerable, and your comfort is our top priority. We truly believe in creating an experience that leaves you feeling truly cared for— we are genuinely invested in the healing and growth of our clients. Therapy is a sanctuary where you are not judged and your needs are the priority.

  • Tailored Approach

At Abode, we don’t believe in a one-size fits all approach. We do an assessment of all the factors that are impacting your life, truly take the time to get to know you and then use multiple modalities to give you the appropriate support. We continue to modify your treatment plan as your needs and circumstances change.

  • Evidence-Based Tools

Our therapists commit to ongoing learning so we can bring in knowledge of the latest research and give you creative methods and tools to support your healing and growth. All of our methods are rooted in evidence from both functional and medical models, so you get the best of both worlds.

This is how you get started with individual therapy:

01

Book a consultation: Discuss your goals and concerns and learn more about our therapists and their approach to see if they are fit for you.

Your first session: Complete an intake and informed consent form and get started! We will spend the first session (and more) building rapport, learning about you and giving you tools for immediate needs so you can feel a difference right away.

02

Ongoing growth: Collaborate with your therapist to create a treatment plan to make sure we’re on track with helping you overcome your barriers and achieve your goals! This plan can and will change over time.

Q&A
  • While services provided by Registered Psychotherapists or Registered Social Workers are not covered by OHIP at this time, many extended health insurance plans do offer coverage for mental health services provided by either profession. Please refer to your plan details or contact your provider to find out which service providers are covered under your specific plan.

  • We have some capacity to offer reduced rates to help more people receive support. Please contact us for more information.

  • In your first session, your therapist will take the time to get to know you, discuss your concerns, and explore what you’d like to achieve through therapy. This session sets the foundation for a comfortable, collaborative relationship and allows you to ask any questions you may have about the process.

  • The length of therapy will vary depending on your personal goals and needs. Some clients have short-term goals and will revisit their therapist in short spurts over a long period of time, while others will continue a regular routine with their therapist to work through deeper issues and maintain progress. We have an open-door policy, meaning there is no set commitment for you to attend therapy and you can return back whenever you choose.

  • At Abode Wellness Collective, we use a blend of evidence-based approaches, including CBT, DBT, ACT, Narrative Therapy, and Internal Family Systems. Your therapist will tailor their methods to suit your specific needs and goals, ensuring a personalized and effective treatment plan.
